Blackie’s Story
For me, Jeanette Vockerodt and Executive Dog Training it all started with a desperate message for HELP from the Weyers family, during December 2016.
But for the Weyers family, it all started months before. And for one precious doggy named Blackie, it started even years before the Weyers family found her!
This is the story of Blackie Weyers. Just Share This Post To See Everything….
When I first received the call from the Weyers family the beginning of December 2016, I knew the family was desperate for getting the correct help for their precious Blackie and they needed my immediate attention.
The day and time for Blackie’s assessment was set immediately.
On my arrival, I saw Blackie curled up in a corner on a doggy bed with a blankie and toys all around her. Blackie’s doggy bed was placed in an area outside the Weyer’s family home, sheltered as much as possible from nature’s elements of wind, sun and rain.
The Weyers family did their utmost best to make Blackie as comfy as possible. But Blackie did only one thing and that was to curl up in a bundle and lie in a corner on the doggy bed amongst the blankies and toys. Find out if Blackie ever got out of this fearful and traumatic stage……
Blackie was riddled with trauma, fear, anxiety and did not even want to walk or get off her doggy bed. This was an emergency and I had to help the Weyers family as soon as possible. On this assessment day, even though Blackie was and is still the worse case I have ever helped via Executive Dog Training, I could already clearly visualize how Blackie walks with the Weyers family’s other doggies and how she is playing with them. I believed that I could help and that was exactly what I did.
That same week, my work via Executive Dog Training started at the Weyers family home, helping Blackie. Each day Blackie’s progress was monitored. Follow us to find out what we discovered of Blackie.
For the Weyers’ family it all started during their holiday and here is their true life story:
“We met Blackie last year September 2016 at a beach Resort in Mauritius while on holiday.
We spotted her on the first day and my daughter named her Blackie. Blackie was very skittish but being animal lovers we collected some food at dinner and left it out for her so she came closer and closer each day eventually eating out of our hands. This happened every morning for breakfast and every evening for dinner.
So our departure day arrived, possibly one of the safest days for me, especially it seemed that Blackie came to say goodbye and ran after our shuttle for a bit. So tears all the way to the airport and all the way home.
On our way to the airport my Mom-In-Law did some quick research and came across PAWS Mauritius, an NGO that helps safe/rescue and sterilizes dogs in Mauritius.
While at the resort my Mom-In-Law discovered a cage in the hotel garden with meat in, set as a trap to catch the stray dogs and cats so this was even more concerning.
We were then informed that sadly most resorts poison or catch stray dogs, and then take them to the dog pound, where they are unfortunately killed.
My husband made contact with the hotel, offered a reward. At first he heard nothing, and after a follow up was told that no one saw a black dog there. After a month later he got an email from Head of Security that he had caught the dog and would like the reward. Blackie was taken to PAWS, so at least we knew she was safe, safe from the dog catcher and she would now be fed twice a day. PAWS works hand in hand with Relocation Mauritius, specializing in relocating the dogs.
“After a long wait, several emails and waiting on eggshells, I was informed that Blackie would board the flight on 24 November 2016. The longest day of my life. Nervously waiting to hear if Blackie was safely on her flight to Johannesburg and then waiting to hear from Pet Lounge in Johannesburg that Blackie has safely landed and then safely on her flight to PE, which was delayed.
So a very long day for our Blackie too. On November 24th, 2016 Blackie arrived early evening.
At first Blackie was very scared, ran and hide in a tiny passage next to our shed. We got her to move a bit and she created a safe zone for herself by the pool pumps.
We with all good intentions tried to make her comfy while adjusting, and unfortunately we’re advised by another dog behaviourist to let her do her thing and she will eventually come to us and trust. This of course was heartbreaking, as our other 4 dogs sleep inside and to have Blackie sleep on her own outside just was not cutting it.
So my Mom-In-Law discovered Executive Dog Training on Facebook and contacted Jeanette Vockerodt immediately. A consult was scheduled as soon as possible and started Jeanette’s journey with Blackie.
Day 1 Jeanette got Blackie moving and sitting and all the way to the back door.
Think by Day 3, Jeanette had Blackie walking around the back yard and into the house, and integration with the other dogs, happy heart as my Blackie got to sleep inside the house for the first time that night.
The next day after some staircase work and work on smells, sounds and textures in the house. Blackie discovered our room, slowly and cautiously exploring until she discovered her own bed.
Now that you know the Weyers family’s experience with how they discovered and helped Blackie, you can understand what an incredible privilege it was and still is to help Blackie and the Weyers family.
A year has almost past and the Weyers family is truly committed. They have even implemented some lifestyle changes in order to best help Blackie and their existing dogs.
